Gaithersburg, MD, June 8, 2005– Emergent BioSolutions announced today that Jerome M. Hauer, former acting Assistant Secretary for the Office of Public and Emergency Preparedness in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has been named to its board of directors.

Mr. Hauer currently serves as Senior Vice President and Co-Chair of the Homeland Security Practice in the Washington, DC-based firm of Fleishman-Hillard Government Relations. In addition to his prior position at HHS, Mr. Hauer has served as the first Director of The Response to Emergencies and Disasters Institute at the George Washington University School of Public Health, and Director of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management under Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Following the 911 attacks on the World Trade Center, Mayor Guilliani called upon Mr. Hauer to return to government service to assist in managing in the city’s response. Mr. Hauer holds a master’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University. He currently is a member of the Health Advisory Board of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
